Jess commemorates Hiroshima in Wollongong

This morning in Wollongong, Jess attended the 65th anniversary vigil of the bombing of Hiroshima (pictured with fellow peace activist Sharon Callaghan). Every year on the morning of August 6th, the local Hiroshima Day committee organise the vigil to remember the 200,000 people who died of nuclear radiation, shock waves from the blasts and thermal radiation when the US dropped the bomb. More than 400,000 people have died since as a result of the attacks.
The Hiroshima Day committee call for an end to nuclear weapons and are also calling for the withdrawal of Australian troops from Afghanistan. For media coverage of today's event visit http://www.northernleader.com.au/article/nuclear_warning/
